How the 100 KB target works
Most tools make you guess a quality setting, check the file size, and try again. Squish does that loop for you: it runs a binary search across quality levels and keeps the highest one that lands under 100 KB. If an image can't reach the target even at minimum quality, we tell you - and suggest capping the dimensions, which usually gets it there.
The 100 KB target isn't magic - it's just a sensible ceiling for web images, profile photos, CMS uploads, and form attachments with size limits. You can type any target you like: 50 KB, 200 KB, whatever your upload form demands.
Common questions
- Will my image lose quality?
- Some, but less than you'd think - modern WebP encoding at the right quality level is visually close to the original. Use the built-in before/after slider to check every image before downloading.
- Can I do a whole folder at once?
- Yes - drop in as many images as you like and every one is compressed to the target automatically, then download them all as a zip. See the bulk image compressor page for details.
- Are my images uploaded somewhere?
- Images are processed in memory and never stored. Nothing is kept after your compressed file is returned.
